Downtown Schnucks Location Celebrates Sales-beating Projections

In its first year, sales and traffic at Schnucks’ Culinaria market in downtown St. Louis have exceeded the grocer’s expectations.

Store co-manager Lisa Porta wouldn’t disclose specific sales numbers, but she said downtown residents and workers have expressed gratitude for having a full-service supermarket downtown and a place to grab lunch or groceries on the way home, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

The store aims to grow its evening business and pickup orders. Customers can phone in their orders and employees will deliver the groceries to customers’ cars or hotels, the Journal reported. To help promote nighttime shopping, the store recently promoted a cashier to events coordinator.

Culinaria’s first birthday celebration last week saw the store festooned with banners and balloons. Events included free food and giveaways, and a visit from one of the hometown Budweiser Clydesdales.

St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets operates more than 100 stores in seven Midwestern states.
