Dierbergs Now Accepting Apple Pay
Midwest regional grocery chain Dierbergs now accepts Apple Pay payment technology at store checkout, allowing customers to use their iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to pay for groceries.
Customers simply hold their device near the contactless reader at checkout at any of Dierbergs’ 25 stores. Apple Pay by phone requires an iPhone6 or iPhone 6Plus and uses the phone’s touch-ID for added security.
“We’re always focusing on ways to make our customers’ shopping experience more convenient, and that includes giving them the options they’re looking for to pay for their groceries,” said Jim Shipley, Dierbergs chief information officer. “Mobile payment and particularly Apple Pay is an option our customers have asked for, and we like it because of Apple Pay’s exceptional security and privacy properties.”
With Apple Pay, when a user adds a credit or debit card, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique encrypted code is securely stored on the customer’s iPhone or Apple Watch. Instead of using the security code from the back of the customer’s card, Apple Pay creates a dynamic security code to securely validate each transaction.
In its fourth generation of family management, Dierbergs Family Markets operates 25 stores in St. Louis and St. Charles counties; Osage Beach, Mo.; and Shiloh and Edwardsville, Ill.
