Cub Foods, St. Paul Winter Carnival Vulcans Melt Away Hunger

STILLWATER, Minn. -- Inspired by its recent Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank Round-Up program, Cub Foods here unveiled its own piece of artwork -- containing a donation check worth $75,000 -- in downtown Saint Paul's Rice Park while Winter Carnival ice sculptors began etching their frozen creations.

The donation, which was presented to Second Harvest Heartland representative, Jane Brown, by Monica Schierbaum, v.p. of advertising, marketing and p.r. for Cub Foods, was raised in Cub Foods' Round-Up Program.

During October, Cub customers were asked to "round up" their grocery bills to the next dollar, with the donation benefiting Second Harvest Heartland. Cub matched its customers' donations 2-to-1, resulting in a substantial donation that will provide the amount needed to distribute 375,000 meals to Minnesotans. "Cub Foods is helping to eradicate hunger in the communities its serves," said Schierbaum. "We are delighted to support and increase awareness of such an important cause."
