C&S Helps Brattleboro, Vt. Needy to a Good Breakfast
KEENE, N.H. -- To give underprivileged people in the area the best start to the day possible, C&S Wholesale Grocers here has donated 13 truckloads of food -- including 6,000 boxes of cereal from C&S vendor Malt-O-Meal in Minneapolis -- to the Brattleboro, Vt. Area Drop-In Center via Project Feed the Thousands in 2007.
This is an 8.3 percent increase over its 2006 donation, the wholesaler said. The donation provides enough cereal to provide 78,000 breakfast servings to needy area residents, according to C&S.
"The majority of charitable giving occurs during the holidays, but unfortunately, hunger is an issue that a huge number of families face all year long," said C&S director of corporate giving Gina Goff in a statement. "We're making our announcement in March to call attention to the fact that the real 'crunch time' is all the time for families who need food banks to make ends meet. We want people to understand that the Drop-In Center needs the public's help now more than ever."
Despite C&S' help, Project Feed the Thousands failed meet its goal this past holiday season. The organization estimated that the food donated to date will run out on June 15 of this year.
C&S provides distribution services to grocery chains and independent stores, delivering to over 5,000 locations from its distribution centers in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama, California, and Hawaii.
