Chiquita Offers Teachers BTS Nutritional Resources
Chiquita Brands International Inc. has launched a multimedia campaign to deliver necessary resources to pre-K through 6th grade teachers as another school year gets underway. Running through Oct. 16, the “Chiquita Banana Smart Sweeps” campaign includes school, retailer and community outreach to promote healthy eating habits, along with an interactive website offering games, videos, recipes, lesson plans and chances to win cash prizes. Cincinnati-based Chiquita’s aim is to provide more cash for selected budget-challenged teachers, tools that facilitate healthy living, and eating habits and resources to engage students.
“To promote healthy eating and Chiquita’s role in delivering nutritious snack options, we've designed a campaign that raises awareness about healthy living in the community and a fun, unique website that engages teachers and students,” noted Craig Stephen, VP North American bananas and Fresh Select at Chiquita.
Following a successful multichannel promotion last spring with the move “Rio,” the current campaign focuses on schools, teachers, retailers and the broader community through a variety of channels inviting teachers to sign up at www.chiquita.com/bananabrain for a chance to take part three drawings to win $500, $750 or $2,000.
A key element of the campaign is the website, where participants will discover interactive games, kid-oriented snack ideas, and classroom activities teachers can use to instruct students about healthy living. Participating retailers in select locations will help spread the healthy snacking message by providing 15 pounds of free Chiquita bananas to those teachers who register their classrooms before Sept. 17 and are picked to receive a special promotional code.
During the sweepstakes, teachers can check out the multimedia tools, games and lessons on the website provides, and will be rewarded for their participation with additional entry points for the cash prize drawings. Teachers can boost their chances of winning at each drawing period with extra points earned for additional site interactions such as lesson plan downloads, worksheet activity and game playing.
