Chief Supermarkets Deploys Video-Based Shrink Management System
Community-based independent Chief Super Market Inc., has deployed a point-of-sale video auditing solution as part of its initiative to reduce point-of-sale losses throughout its 12-store chain, including stores under the Rays Super Markets banner.
The decision to roll out the system chain-wide follows a successful pilot of Camden, N.J.-based Agilence’s Hawkeye solution in late-2009, which has already generated an ROI, according to Agilence. Chief expects to complete the roll-out to all its locations by 2011.
“Our commitment is to our customers and the communities where our markets are located," said Stephanie Skylar, president and CEO of Chief Supermarkets. “In order to keep our prices competitive in an industry that operates on strict margins, we need to be proactive in minimizing shrink activities beyond just typical fraud incidents. Agilence allows us to do this by keeping us in control at the point-of-sale.”
Agilence’s patented item-level synchronization software, Hawkeye, pulls data directly from the point-of-sale system and synchronizes it with the store’s video. The ability to view both the transaction data and corresponding video in real-time enables retailers to view 50 times more transactions per day, allowing them to detect issues immediately and before they cause considerable shrink, according to Agilence.
The system has also helped Chief Supermarkets identify other issues such as employee theft and fraud by detecting irregularities within transactions.
