CGA Names V.P., Government Relations

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The California Grocers Association (CGA), based here, has appointed Kristin Power its v.p., government relations, effective Feb. 27. Power will assume responsibility for managing CGA government relations program at both the state and local level, including CGA's two local government representatives. She will be the organization's chief lobbyist and direct CGA's contract lobbyists.

Before coming to CGA, Power was director of state affairs for the Grocery Manufacturers Association, in which capacity she managed GMA's Western region state lobbying activities. She directed and coordinated all lobbying activities with GMA members, allied state associations, and industry groups for the region.

From 1996 to 2001 Power served as director of government affairs for the Agricultural Council of California. Before that, she was legislative/public relations coordinator for the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

"Kristin is the perfect fit for the association," said CGA president Peter Larkin in a statement. "Her experience at the local, state, and regional levels, coupled with her industry knowledge via GMA, is a real plus for our industry."

Power suceeds Paul A. Smith, who has accepted a position as director of legislative affairs for the Regional Council of Rural Counties.

CGA is a nonprofit, statewide trade association representing approximately 500 retail members operating more than 6,000 food stores in California and Nevada, and about 200 grocery supplier companies. Retail membership includes chain and independent supermarkets, convenience stores, and mass merchandisers.
