Cargill Makes Record-Breaking Ground Beef Donation to Second Harvest
WICHITA, Kan. - Cargill Meat Solutions based here donated 94,520 pounds of ground beef to America's Second Harvest, representing the largest ground beef donation in anti-hunger organization's 26-year history.
Second Harvest distributed five truckloads of Cargill ground beef product (two trucks from Cargill's Friona, Tex., plant and three trucks from Cargill's Schuyler, Neb., plant) to member food banks located in Houston, San Antonio, Salt Lake City, and Nashville, Tenn. The food banks used the ground beef to make entrees, including King Ranch Beef Casserole, Hamburger Stroganoff, Beef Enchilada Casserole, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Sloppy Joes. All entrees were matched with a starch, such as pasta, rice or potatoes, and a mix of vegetables and beans.

But the real honor goes to the dedicated staff at the food banks around the United States for the work they do each day to make sure people in need have the opportunity to eat nutritious meals each day."
