Tenant Update

CHARLOTTE, Mich. -- Carter's Food Centers here has apparently closed all of its 14 stores located throughout northern and central Michigan this week, according to published reports.

CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC, based here, has entered into a 20-year lease agreement with Port Washington, N.Y.-based Cedar Shopping Centers, Inc. to build a new Giant Supermarket measuring about 60,000 square feet on an approximately eight-acre portion of a 26 acre-tract purchased by Cedar in 2005 next to its Lake Raystown Shopping Center in Huntingdon, Pa.

COMPTON, Calif. -- Kroger-owned Ralphs Grocery Co., based here, is drawing fire in the press and the courts, as its plans to close 10 Northern California stores because of declining sales attracted vitriol from local labor groups, and it pleaded not guilty to charges of labor fraud.

COPPELL, Texas -- Minyard Food Stores, Inc., based here, closed its Minyard store at 2320 S. Collins in Arlington, Texas on Saturday. Another store in Arlington, at 4400 Green Oaks, remains open.

Brown Deer, Wis. -- Country Market USA, a retro supermarket that was hailed as a vehicle to jump-start a once-thriving commercial corridor here, has closed its doors just one year from the time it opened.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Yesterday was a busy day in bankruptcy court for Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., as two of the regional retailer's lease assignments and several landlord lease terminations were approved.

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. filed notice Monday with the state to lay off 169 workers in South Florida.

READING, Pa. -- Redner's Warehouse Markets, based here, said late last week it would open a 56,000-square-foot location in the Hamburg Commons shopping center in Hamburg, Pa. on Wednesday, June 29 at 8 a.m., with a public open house to be held tomorrow from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The store will be the 10th Redner's location in Pennsylvania's Berks County.
