Brookshire Grocery Co. Store Brand Milk Takes Top Slot in Dairy Competition

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s manufacturing division has won first place in the cultured milk class in the World Dairy Expo (WDE) Championship Dairy Product Contest with its store brand Food Club Milk.

The judging, which was held August 17-19, was based on sensory evaluation including categories for flavor, body, texture, appearance, and color.

BGC representatives will attend a ceremony to receive the award at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., September 24.

The Tyler, Texas-based grocer’s plants captured second in the regular chocolate ice cream with its Goldenbrook Premium Ice Cream and sour cream based dip class with its Food Club brand of sour cream. The group also placed third in the low fat blueberry yogurt class with its Food Club brand of yogurt.

The competition drew a record number of more than 650 entries for cheese, butter, fluid milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, sour cream, sherbet, cultured milk, sour cream, dips, whipping cream, and dried whey from throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
