B&R Stores Brighten Holidays for Needy Families

Toys under the tree and food on the table are typically part of families’ holiday celebrations, but that’s not always possible for families facing difficult circumstances.

That’s why Nebraska’s B&R Stores is teaming up with Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Food Bank of Lincoln to make the holiday season brighter. The two organizations will benefit from appearances by the Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan at Russ’s Market and Super Saver stores in Lincoln through Dec. 11.

Visitors to the caravan at the Russ’s Market locations are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys for children involved in Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters. Customers can find suggestions for gifts on “Giving Trees” for HBBBS located at Super Saver and Russ’s Market stores throughout Lincoln. The mentoring program serves more than 800 children in the Lincoln area.

Families who visit the caravan at Super Saver locations will receive a free downloadable digital photo with Santa with the donation of a can of food for the Food Bank of Lincoln. Photos are also available for visitors who stop by the caravan at Russ’s Market locations.

“The holiday season highlights needs within our community, and Heartland Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Food Bank of Lincoln help fill those needs,” said Pat Raybould, president of B&R Stores. “The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan is a fun and festive way for us to encourage more people to support those organizations.”

The Coca-Cola Holiday Caravan is a semitrailer decorated with 25,000 red and white lights on a nationwide tour during the holiday season. Each stop on the five-day swing through Lincoln will feature a variety of activities, including appearances by local musical groups. Visitors can also learn about the “Arctic Home” initiative recently launched by Coca-Cola and the World Wildlife Fund. The initiative aims to raise awareness and funds to help protect the polar bear’s home.

Founded in 1964, Lincoln, Neb.-based B&R Stores Inc. operates four store concepts – Russ’s Market, Super Saver, Save Best Foods and Grand Central Apple Market – in seven cities across Nebraska and Iowa.
