Bottom Dollar Food Reveals Sweepstakes Winner

Pittsburgh resident Dori Sweet has won the discount grocer Bottom Dollar Food’s annual Give (& Get)-a-Lotta Groceries sweepstakes, taking home $5,200, or the equivalent of free groceries for a year. As part of the contest, Sweet selected the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to receive an accompanying $5,200 donation.

A presentation of checks to both Sweet and the food bank will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 11:30 a.m. at the Bottom Dollar store at 5239 Brownsville Road in Pittsburgh.

“Winning the Give (& Get)-a-Lotta-Groceries sweepstakes provides my family with a unique opportunity to support a great charity and save money for a down payment on a home at the same time,” noted Sweet. “I normally ignore sweepstakes. However, when I saw that this one offered a chance to ‘Pay It Forward,’ how could I not enter? Having been in a position in the past that my family needed help putting food on the table, this is very close to my heart, and it means the world to be able to give back.”

Helping Fight Hunger

With the donation, the food bank will be able to provide about 26,000 meals to individuals and families facing hunger in the greater Pittsburgh area. “It’s because of individuals like Dori, who care so much for the less fortunate in our community, that the food bank is able to help nearly 110,000 people each month,” said Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank CEO Lisa Scales.

Sweet was chosen as the sweepstakes winner by random drawing from among more than 7,000 entries. Bottom Dollar Food shoppers could enter the contest, which ran last November and December, by visiting the grocer’s Facebook page. Customers could also gain more entries by purchasing my essentials private-brand products, or taking part in the supermarket chain’s “Hunger Has a Cure" campaign by purchasing a food box to feed a needy local family.

In 2013, Bottom Dollar donated more than 550,000 meals to needy families through local feeding agencies.
