Big Y Opens 41st Pharmacy

Big Y Foods Inc. is opening its 41st pharmacy, which will be located within a World Class Market in Great Barrington, Mass., on Friday, May 11. The pharmacy’s hours will be Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

To mark the opening, Big Y plans to hold special wellness events throughout the next few months, including total cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, glucose and body fat percentage testing and skin analysis. In addition, the family-owned company, one of the largest independent grocers in New England, offers a 90-day supply of more than 300 generic prescriptions for only $9.99 through its Prescription Savings Club, along with free prescription prenatal vitamins and a free 30-day supply of select generic vitamins when customers present a Big Y Express Savings Club Card. Additionally, as part of a grand-opening special offer, pharmacists can administer flu shots for $14.99.

Prescription files from the nearby Rite Aid in Great Barrington will be transferred to the Big Y Pharmacy and available at 9 a.m. on May 11th in time for the store opening. Pharmacists can also transfer prescriptions from other pharmacies with no interruption of service.

64-store Big Y, based in Springfield, Mass., currently operates 40 pharmacies in its two-state footprint of Massachusetts and Connecticut, and has more than 10,000 employees.
