Big Y Absorbs Local Pharmacy

Daniel’s Pharmacy has moved into the local Big Y supermarket for the convenience of customers, according to the Springfield, Mass.-based grocer. As of Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, all prescription files from Daniel’s Pharmacy at 42 Reynolds St. in Danielson, Conn., have been transferred to the Big Y Pharmacy & Wellness Center at 70 Wauregan Rd. in Danielson.

Daniel’s owner, Daniel Fiore, bought Allard’s Pharmacy in 1989 and changed the name in 1996.

Pharmacy manager Ellen Pulawski and her colleague, Robert Jaffe, are now working at the new location, along with technicians Robin Lawton, Terri Churchill and Robert Payne. All of them previously worked at Daniel’s Pharmacy. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

As is the case with the grocer’s other pharmacy locations, the Danielson Big Y Pharmacy will hold special wellness events such as total cholesterol and blood pressure screenings, glucose and body fat percentage and flu shots, as well as offering free delivery service and several programs enabling customers to obtain free antibiotics, free prenatal vitamin programs and 90-day prescription plans for $9.99 that cover more than 350 generic prescriptions.

Family-owned Big Y, which has 61 stores with more than10,000 employees, operates 35 pharmacies throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut.
