A&P Offers Online Shopping, Same-day Delivery in NY's Westchester County
MONTVALE, N.J. -- The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Inc. here said yesterday that it's offering an online shopping service in New York's Westchester County that features same-day delivery.
The chain said shoppers can go to www.apsupermarket.com, and click "Shop Online" to order any items available in A&P stores, including grocery, dairy, fresh fruit and vegetables, baked goods, meat and more. An order placed in the morning will arrive at the end of the same business day, the chain said. A&P said it will even deliver orders to a shopper's job.
The service features A&P's exclusive "chill chain," which ensures that all cold items are kept at the correct temperature throughout the delivery process. Additionally, all items available via A&P's online shopping service are hand-selected at a store rather than a warehouse.
"Our same-day service is a rarity among online shopping businesses," said A&P senior director of public affairs Richard DeSanta in a statement. "And when it comes to quality, customers receive products that are hand-picked, fresh from our stores, while our store-to-door chill chain maintains proper temperatures, ensuring that cold items will remain fresh. These customer-friendly services make online shopping just like being in the store."
A&P already offers online shopping through its Food Emporium banner in Manhattan.
The chain in a press release claimed that it is the only grocer to offer same-day service in Westchester, which is a suburb of New York City. However, Larchmont, N.Y.-based grocer D'Agostino Supermarkets had recently unveiled a revamped online ordering service that promises delivery within three hours in Westchester County.
D'Agostino last month launched a new Web site with online ordering capability for Manhattan and Westchester County residents, with delivery promised within three hours.
A&P operates 410 stores in nine states and the District of Columbia under the A&P, Waldbaum's, The Food Emporium, Super Foodmart, Super Fresh, Farmer Jack, Sav-A-Center, and Food Basics banners.
