AMI Board OKs NAMA Merger

The American Meat Institute’s (AMI) board of directors has approved a merger with the North American Meat Association (NAMA), paving the way as the second of three steps necessary to finalize a pact between the two meat trade organizations that will occur Jan. 1, 2015, if all goes as planned.

Later this month, AMI’s general membership will vote on whether to proceed with the merger with NAMA, whose board approved the deal on March 22.

Assuming AMI’s general members vote to proceed, a transition committee drawn from both associations will be established to map a plan to merge association operations by the end of 2014.
Describing its board vote as “a positive development,” AMI Chairman Greg Benedict and COO/president of American Foods Group, said: “We look forward to our general member vote in the coming weeks.”
