Ahold USA Opts for EfficiencySMART Insight

Ahold USA plans to deploy EfficiencySMART Insight, EnerNOC’s Web-based enterprise energy efficiency solution, in most of its Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant/Martin’s grocery stores. Employing real-time data from 630 supermarkets across New England and the Mid-Atlantic region, EfficiencySMART Insight will target and prioritize energy savings and provide Ahold USA with enterprise-wide and store-level visibility into overall energy usage and spending.

“Ahold USA has worked with EnerNOC since 2005, and during that time we have gained a much clearer view of our energy usage on a site-by-site basis,” noted Paul Grenier, manager of energy at Quincy, Mass.-based Ahold USA. “EfficiencySMART Insight allows us to take those lessons to the next level by helping us compare usage across stores, identify leaders, and share best practices across all our locations.”

EfficiencySMART Insight enables large, multisite organizations to rapidly identify and harvest an array of previously undiscovered low- and no-cost energy savings opportunities, lower energy spikes and related demand charges, optimize energy efficiency investments and strategy, and enhance measurement and verification of continuing and future energy efficiency projects. The solution additionally allows companies to disseminate real-time alerts and alarms to individual store managers. These alerts help to ensure that potential inefficiencies such as inactivated night setbacks are identified quickly to minimize waste.

“Customers with a footprint as large as Ahold USA’s understand that an enterprise-level, data-driven approach to energy management is essential to their business, and they expect bottom-line results,” said Tim Healy, chairman and CEO of Boston-based EnerNOC. “We expect EfficiencySMART Insight deployments to save supermarkets 5 percent annually on their energy bills, and there are nearly 36,000 supermarkets in the United States alone that can reap those rewards.”

EfficiencySMART Insight is part of the EfficiencySMART suite of applications and services. Designed to deliver energy savings based on users’ actual energy usage patterns, the suite additionally offers EfficiencySMART Commissioning, which delivers data-driven persistent commissioning, and EfficiencySMART Services, which provides energy engineering, strategic planningand project design.
