Ahold USA Names Giant/Martin’s President
Ahold USA has hired Tom Lenkevich as Giant/Martin’s division president. Lenkevich reports to Bhavdeep Singh, EVP operations at Ahold USA, who filled in as Giant/Martin’s interim division president following Rick Herring’s retirement.
In his new role, Lenkevich will manage all aspects of the division, with responsibility for its sales, operating profits, organization and people. Giant/Martin’s, based in Carlisle, Pa., operates almost 200 supermarkets in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia under the Giant Food Stores and Martin’s Food Markets banners, employing about 31,000 associates.
‘Decades of Grocery Experience’
Lenkevich’s most recent position was with St. Louis-based Save-A-Lot Food Stores as COO, SVP of retail operations. While at Save-A-Lot, he oversaw all aspects of retail operations, merchandising/marketing and procurement for the national and international chain of corporate and licensed stores. Lenkevich earlier held leadership positions of increasing responsibility with other large food retailers as well, including market director at Meijer Inc., and division VP of operations and VP, merchandising and sales at A&P.
“Tom’s decades of grocery experience, combined with his central Pennsylvanian roots, make him a great addition to the Giant/Martin’s division and the Ahold USA leadership team,” noted James McCann, COO at Ahold USA. “In addition to leading the division, Tom will be driving activities to achieve sales results and working with the Giant/Martin’s team to preserve the heritage of the local brand while at the same time reshaping retail with a strong focus on reinvesting in value and quality, and offering customers an omni-channel shopping experience to meet their needs both today and in the future.”
