AG New England Moving to Supply Former AGME Customers

Associated Grocers of New England (AG New England) is stepping up to service former Associated Grocers of Maine (AGME) customers following the news that Gardiner-based AGME is going out of business.

"We have been working with a number of Maine retailers, and will begin supplying a number of stores immediately,” said AG New England president and CEO Mike Bourgoine (left). “AG New England has always served some Maine independent grocers, and is now reaching out to offer assistance to others.”

Bourgoine noted that Pembroke, N.H.-based AG New England has already hired three former AGME employees and is discussing job opportunities with others, including some former drivers for the company.

Owned entirely by independent retail grocers as members of a cooperative, AG New England is the largest retailer-owned, wholesale grocery distribution center in New England. The co-op serves over 550 independent retail food stores in Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the upstate New York/Albany area.
