3rd Time’s the Charm for The Fresh Grocer NJ Grand Opening

The Fresh Grocer supermarket has had to reschedule the opening of its first New Jersey location at New Brunswick’s Wellness Plaza for a second time due to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. The store will officially open its doors to the public Friday, Nov. 9 at 9 a.m., a week after the originally scheduled opening date.

“We want to help serve our community’s recovery efforts by making available groceries and supplies,” said Fresh Grocer president and CEO Patrick J. Burns. “As cleanup efforts began mid-week, our goal was to get the store open on Monday, November 5, just a few days after our originally planned date. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves up against a number of unforeseen challenges caused by the hurricane and its aftermath that have forced us to push back the grand opening to November 9.”

The original opening date was set for Nov. 2, along with a VIP preview party on Nov. 1, but Hurricane Sandy and its after effects caused a delay in readying the store. In lieu of the preview party, The Fresh Grocer made a donation to the American Red Cross to assist them in their disaster relief efforts.

“We ask that you please join us in keeping those who have been affected by Sandy in your thoughts and prayers,” said Burns. “We will be working day and night to bring the resilient city of New Brunswick the first-class full service supermarket that it deserves.”

The Fresh Grocer is an accomplished independent supermarket chain based in Drexel Hill, Pa., specializing in providing high-quality perishables in urban and suburban environments. It operates seven stores in the Greater Philadelphia area.
