Yahoo Launches Consumer Food Info Portal

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Yahoo Inc. yesterday launched Yahoo Food, a lifestyle Web site delivering food-related information and rich data through a combination of social media tools and licensed, original, and video content.

The new site combines content from celebrity chefs, a searchable recipe database and personalization features, as well as a built-in user community around the topic of food.

"Yahoo Food was designed with the everyday cook and food lover in mind," said Deanna Brown, general manager, Yahoo Lifestyles. "Food is a necessity for everyone and an obsession to others, and we are thrilled to combine all these food features from great partners and marketers and present them in a seamless, integrated experience."

The Web site enlisted a roster of notable partners including Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Wolfgang Puck Worldwide, Inc., Every Day with Rachael Ray, Food & Wine, Epicurious.com (online home to Bon Appetit and Gourmet), Allrecipes.com, Cook's Illustrated, EatingWell, Taste of Home, and Reader's Digest, who will share video and informational content throughout the site to provide consumers with an in-depth food experience.

The Yahoo Food search technology indexes thousands of recipes through a technology partnership with Allrecipes.com. Users can search by ingredient, cuisine, special days, taste or mealtimes. Additionally, personalization and social media tools enable users to rate, review, and share recipes online.

Yahoo Food also features a "My Food" module on every page to help users save and retrieve recently reviewed articles, recipes, and searches. Other popular properties from Yahoo are integrated with Yahoo Food including Yahoo Answers, which highlights contextually relevant questions about food, and Yahoo Local, which features extensive dining guides, restaurant ratings, and reviews from around the country.

Yahoo Food gives advertisers and marketers, such as Masterfoods USA and LendingTree.com, the opportunity to reach its key consumers in a vibrant and active online community.

The Web site will also feature more than a dozen food bloggers, and Yahoo will develop a new original online video show called "Cheap and Easy" featuring culinary talent Brooke Peterson.
