Wisconsin’s Farmers Offer Free Groceries For a Year

Wisconsin residents can register for two grand prizes of “Free Groceries for a Year” — valued at $5,000 — courtesy of Wisconsin’s farmers, at www.FarmersFeedUS.org.

Upon visiting the Web site, consumers register by “meeting” a Wisconsin farmer through a short video that shows how safe, nutritious and affordable food is produced. Consumers can register with each of the eight featured farmers daily through Oct. 4, the end of the 90-day program. Prizes will be awarded as gift cards to the winners’ favorite grocery retailers.

The “Farmers Feed US” Web site features beef, corn, dairy, egg, veal, hog and soybean farmers from across the state, all sharing information about their farms and families. In addition to guiding visitors through their registration for free groceries, each farmer also offers a brief online tour of his or her farm.

“As Wisconsin farmers, we’re thrilled to offer free groceries for a year to the consumers of our great state,” said Daphne Holterman, a dairy farmer from Watertown, Wis. “This is an opportunity for us to share what we produce with Wisconsin consumers and to let them know we share their values — taking care of our families, taking care of our animals and land, and giving back to our communities.”

Over the course of the campaign, consumers throughout the state will also see and hear from these farmers in television advertising and on Facebook and Twitter.

Participating Wisconsin agriculture groups include the Wisconsin Pork Association, the Wisconsin Farm Bureau, the Wisconsin Soybean Association, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board, the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association, Wisconsin Poultry and Egg, the Wisconsin Beef Council, the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association, the Wisconsin Veal Growers Association, the Wisconsin Dairy Business Association, and the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin.

While Farmers Feed US is a national program, Wisconsin is one of a number of states to implement it on a state level. The first state was Ohio, which wrapped up its sweepstakes last October. Other states that have recently completed programs of their own are Michigan, Iowa, Indiana and Missouri, with Minnesota and South Dakota slated to follow in August.
