Wis. Potato Cooking Videos Feature U.S. Olympian

The Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA) has launched the first in a series of six videos featuring Wisconsin native, and three-time Olympian, Suzy Favor Hamilton (left), cooking some of her favorite Wisconsin potato recipes.

As the Wisconsin Potatoes spokesperson, Favor Hamilton covers a variety of topics in the video series, including the best way to prepare potatoes, recipe shortcuts, as well as health and nutrition information.

“Potatoes are a great source of nutrition,” noted Favor Hamilton. “They’re low in calories, yet great for replenishing your energy. They’re also gluten free, so they can be an important source of nutrition for those with celiac disease.” She adds, “We’ve all read the latest research — that by the year 2030, over half of Americans could be obese. It’s important that we provide families with inexpensive, easy-to-make recipes that help us reverse that trend.”

Each of the videos will launch over the next six months on the WPVGA website to coincide with seasonal events. They’ll also be available on the Eat Wisconsin Potatoes Facebook page and the Wisconsin Potatoes YouTube channel.

The video features include:

As a former middle distance runner for the U.S., Favor Hamilton competed in three summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney. She also won seven U.S. National Championships, nine NCAA championships, and was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Decade in the 90s. She currently lives in Madison, Wis., with her family and travels the nation as a motivational speaker promoting a healthy lifestyle.

The Antigo, Wis.-based WPVGA provides grower education, government support, environmentally sound research and consumer education for 150 grower organizations across the state.
