Winn-Dixie Reopens More Stores in New Orleans, Biloxi Area

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. said it has reopened nearly half of its stores in New Orleans and two-thirds of those in the Gulfport-Biloxi, Miss., area.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Winn-Dixie had opened 20 stores in New Orleans while 23 remain closed in the city, which is still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina at the end of August, according to The Business Journal.

Winn-Dixie operates in 23 markets in the Southeast, and is second in market share in New Orleans. The company said its distribution center in Hammond, La., is under full power and making shipments to stores throughout the region. The chain said it has also opened four of its six stores in the Gulfport-Biloxi market.
