Winn-Dixie Offers ‘WD RxConnect Translate’ Service

Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has rolled out the latest feature of its WD RxConnect program at 62 of the Jacksonville, Fla.-based grocer’s in-store pharmacies: WD RxConnect Translate. The free translation service helps the company’s pharmacists share information with non-English-speaking customers, thereby enabling transactions and consultations to be carried out effectively.

“Winn-Dixie pharmacies are committed to meeting the unique needs of all our customers,” said VP, pharmacy John Fegan. “WD RxConnect Translate provides language interpreter services in more than 100 different languages, helping our pharmacists seamlessly communicate with people who otherwise might struggle to be understood or to understand information that is important to their health.”

The pharmacies with WD RxConnect Translate were selected by an in-depth analysis to determine need. Each participating pharmacy features a special two-line phone that connects both the pharmacist and the customer to an interpreter provided by Monterey, Calif.-based Language Line Services. Pharmacists display a counter card that informs customers of the service when communication is difficult. Once the customer indicates a language preference, the pharmacist phones an interpreter who can help convey questions and concerns via a three-way call.

Among the languages the service offers are Arabic, Armenian, Cantonese, French, German, Hindi, Hmong, Italian, Japanese, Khmer (Cambodian), Korean, Laotian, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese. For a complete list of Winn-Dixie pharmacies where WD RxConnect Translate is available, customers can visit www.winn-dixie.com/pharmacy.

WD RxConnect serves as a centralized prescription record system linking all Winn-Dixie and SaveRite pharmacies. Through the program, available exclusively at Winn-Dixie and Save Rite stores, customers can review their medication profile online, print out medication history reports, request refills online and view images of their medications.

Winn-Dixie operates 515 retail grocery locations, including more than 400 in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.
