Winn-Dixie Offering Gov.-subsidized Flu Drugs for the Underinsured

Under a joint initiative with the Department of Health, select Winn-Dixie pharmacies in Florida, Louisiana and Alabama are filling prescriptions of the antiviral drugs Tamiflu and/or Relenza at little or no charge for patients who have inadequate or no prescription insurance coverage. The program’s aim is to help these vulnerable consumers stay healthy during the cold and flu season.

To be eligible for the program, customers must present a valid doctor’s prescription for Tamiflu and/or Relenza. A state-regulated fee may be charged for dispensing the medications, but the fee will be waived when patients are unable to pay. A list of Winn-Dixie store locations offering the antiviral drugs at little or no cost is available at http://winn-dixie.com/Store_Locations/search.

Additionally, in common with Publix and Walmart, all of Winn-Dixie’s 401 pharmacies are now compounding Tamiflu oral suspension, of which there is a nationwide shortage.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. operates 515 stores in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi.
