Winn-Dixie Names VP, Neighborhood Marketing

Giving a boost to its existing "Neighborhood Marketing" initiative, regional chain Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has promoted Jim Carrado to v.p., neighborhood marketing. Carrado previously served as senior director of neighborhood merchandising.

In this new role, Carrado will be responsible for executing strategies centered on Hispanic, urban, and affluent clusters. He will work closely with all areas of the business -- including merchandising, marketing, and operations -- to build and oversee a multi-functional team that maintains a strong focus on the company's Neighborhood Marketing initiative, according to Winn-Dixie. The executive will continue to report directly to Dan Portnoy, s.v.p., chief merchandising and marketing officer.

In his previous position of senior director of neighborhood merchandising, Carrado orchestrated the fixture plan development and product merchandising plans for all remodeled stores, Winn-Dixie said. He also developed the company's new product implementation strategy, and created and implemented the clustering process and framework for neighborhood merchandising. He will continue with these responsibilities going forward.

Carrado honed his skills at Ralph's Supermarkets for 14 years, and later served as v.p. of merchandising at Sutton Place Gourmet. Immediately prior to joining Winn-Dixie in 2003, he worked for Spartan Stores.
