Winn-Dixie Improves Kosher Selection at Some Fla. Stores

Just ahead of the high holidays, Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. is expanding kosher offerings at select south Florida locations. Three stores in Boca Raton, Tamarac and Aventura will now carry kosher-certified cut fruits, fruit platters and filleted fish.

Additionally, the Boca Raton store will bow a full-service kosher-certified bakery providing made-to-order cakes and specialty desserts, among other items. The bakery will offer clearly marked pareve and dairy products, some of them Pas Yisroel.

“At Winn-Dixie, we’re always looking for ways to improve our customer experience,” explained Deborah Shapiro, specialty foods category manager at Jacksonville, Fla.-based Winn-Dixie, which operates 514 retail grocery locations, including more than 400 in-store pharmacies, in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi. “The recent addition of a kosher bakery in our Boca Raton store was done as a direct response to customer requests.”

Kosher certification of the offered products will be under the supervision of the Star-K until Sept. 30, when certification will switch to the ORB.

According to Shapiro. the grocer carries “more than 1,000 kosher-certified corporate brand products and kosher additions.”
