Winn-Dixie Donates $400,000 to Fight Breast Cancer
The National Breast Cancer Foundation received a $300,000 donation toward providing mammograms for those who cannot afford them, and The Donna Foundation received $100,000 as part of Winn-Dixie's sponsorship of the second National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer.
The Jacksonville, Fla.-based chain Winn-Dixie raised the funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation with the help of its vendor partners during a month-long campaign called "Touching Lives for a Better Tomorrow."
Fund-raising activities included 28 races across Florida, in-store awareness featuring pink products and a donation program for customers. Contributions were accepted at checkout for any amount between 50 cents and $500, which was added to the customer's bill.
Last year, the grocer and its vendors donated $250,000 to the foundation.
Winn-Dixie operates 521 stores throughout the Southeast.
