Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. is dumping its one-size-fits-all approach to space planning, to go with software intended to optimize shelf performance and reduce out-of-stocks on a store-by-store basis.
The Jacksonville, Fla. chain said it's using a system from Chicago-based Information Resources, Inc.
"IRI Apollo Designer Workstation will allow us to implement a customer-centric merchandise planning approach for each of our stores," said Jim Carrado, senior director, neighborhood merchandising department at Winn-Dixie. “The automated software will tailor planograms at the store level, synchronize our product assortments, and improve inventory demands, which will ultimately lead to greater customer satisfaction."
IRI said Designer Workstation, launched in 2005, is a desktop product designed to leverage rules-based automation to tackle the retail space planning process. It combines assortment, capacity, and merchandising rules to generate hundreds of unique planograms per planner per day, according to the company.
