Winn-Dixie to Certify Private Label Items as Kosher

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - In a bid to better serve shoppers who adhere to strict kosher dietary laws, Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. said yesterday it has reached an agreement with Star-K Certification, Inc. to ensure the chain's private-label kosher products adhere to Jewish dietary laws.

Winn-Dixie said it will be updating its specialty product section as well as labeling kosher items to help the kosher customer locate items during a shopping trip. A complete list of Winn-Dixie's kosher private-label products has been added to the grocer's Web site.

"We want to make it easier for the kosher consumer to locate products, and our new signage at the point of sale will help them quickly identify those items that are certified kosher," Tom Robbins, Winn-Dixie's s.v.p. of merchandising, said. "Star-K has been very helpful in providing educational materials for our staff, as well as working with our corporate brand suppliers to ensure we are on the right track when obtaining certification."
Star-K, a Baltimore-based non-profit agency and one of the largest kosher certification agencies in the world, certifies kosher products and food preparation sites in 46 states and 52 counties.
