WinCo to Enter Phoenix Market: Report

Regional independent WinCo Foods is gearing up to enter the Phoenix marketplace.

According to published reports, the low-price retailer has hired a Phoenix broker to find locations. Ed Beeh, EVP of SRS Real Estate Partners, said he is representing the grocer for its entry into the market, though WinCo itself declined comment.

Beeh said WinCo has purchased the former Walmart site near Seventh Avenue and Bell Road in north Phoenix, but he didn’t provide any additional information about that location.

Reports said that documents at the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office show that a 139,000-square-foot property was purchased by Bell Road Partners, LLC at a trustee sale in November.

WinCo reportedly has contracts on two other Arizona locations — one in Chandler and one in Gilbert, but there was no indication as to when any of the Arizona stores will open.

Boise, Idaho-based WinCo operates 71 stores in across six states in the Western United States.
