Wild Oats to Offer Special Line of Meals for Kids With Allergies
BOULDER, Colo. -- Natural and organic food retailer Wild Oats Markets plans to offer AllergyKids products at all 75 Wild Oats stores across the country.
AllergyKids developed its product line to help children with allergies avoid foods that might cause a harmful reaction. Wild Oats will initially sell AllergyKids' Green Med Case, AllergyKids' Black Lunch Sack, AllergyKids' Green Snack Sack, AllergyKids' Simple Pack, AllergyKids' Starter Pack, and AllergyKids' Round Sticker Pack.
"As a specialty retailer, Wild Oats is committed to being a resource to our customers and offering the highest-quality products to our customers," said Karen Schroeder, Wild Oats category manager. "We cater to people looking for the best foods and to people with special dietary needs like allergies."
According to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, at least one out of every 15 children under the age of three has a food allergy. Food allergies affect an estimated 2 percent of the adult population and 8 percent of American children, or 5 million. From 1997 to 2002, the prevalence of the peanut allergy doubled, suggesting an annual growth of 20 percent a year of children with life-threatening food allergies.
Wild Oats operates 114 natural foods stores in 24 states and British Columbia, Canada under the following banners: Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Henry's Farmers Market, Sun Harvest, and Capers Community Markets.
