Whole Foods, Sambazon Team Up for Amazon Giveaway
Natural and organic foods retailer Whole Foods Market teamed up with Sambazon, a supplier of organic Amazon Superfoods to offer a sweepstakes on Facebook to benefit Whole Planet Foundation.
The contest, called “Win a Trip to Brazil,” is live on Whole Foods Facebook page, and for each entry received, Sambazon will donate $1 to Whole Planet Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to funding microlending programs in developing countries.
"Whole Planet Foundation partners with Sambazon, [because it’s] a company that practices conscious capitalism and works directly with over 10,000 independent family farmers to support sustainable development in the Brazilian Amazon," said Philip Sansone, president and executive director of Whole Planet Foundation. "With Sambazon's donation, we hope to provide more than 100 microloans and nearly 700 people with the opportunity to change their lives through microcredit."
One lucky fan will win a week-long vacation for two to Brazil that includes the opportunity to visit Sambazon's production facilities and meet the family farmers who grow the certified organic and fair trade acai used in the company's Amazon superfood products. The contest will run from June 20 through July 20, 2011, and coincides with a two-week, in-store promotion in which Sambazon will give 5 cents to Whole Planet Foundation for every Sambazon juice sold. Combined, Sambazon has pledged to donate up to $25,000 by the end of July, 2011.
Whole Foods Market was the first national retail chain to carry Sambazon in 2002 and continues to offer Sambazon's full organic line of functional health juices, smoothies, sorbets and frozen products in all 300+ US locations.
Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods operates more than 300 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
