Whole Foods to Open First Indy Store
AUSTIN, Tex. - On the heels of its site developer beating back a rezoning challenge, Whole Foods Market will open its first Indianapolis location, a 60,000-square-footer.
"This is an exciting opportunity," said Patrick Bradley, Whole Foods' Midwest regional president. "We've been looking for the right location to move into Indianapolis for a long time. We're excited to help Indianapolis customers experience all the great things Whole Foods Market has to offer that go well beyond delicious natural and organic food shopping."
In order to fully commit to the needs and wants of its new Indianapolis neighbors, Whole Foods said it will work to minimize traffic and create a neighborhood buffer. In addition, the company has committed to replacing all non-invasive tree species with the same total diameter on or adjacent to the site. The items are in direct relation to requests made by members of the Indianapolis community.
"We have written into the site plan a reduced density tract," said developer Paul Kite of Paul Kite Co. "If another retailer would have developed this area, it would have been a more dense space. There is now a residential component that acts as a buffer between the neighborhood and the store that will make the area more attractive and answer questions raised by members of the community."
