Whole Foods to Highlight Aussie Wines This Spring

Natural and organic foods retailer Whole Foods Market will highlight the value and quality of Australian wine this spring with a two-month chainwide promotion.

“Australia has earned a solid reputation for producing some of the finest varietals in the world, and we have selected some high-quality gems at affordable prices,” said Geof Ryan, global wine buyer for Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods. “From an aromatic Verdelho-Viognier blend to a dark-chocolate cherry Pinot Noir, we have styles for everyone.”

From March 3 to May 5, Whole Foods Market will feature:

—Hope Estate, Verdelho, Hunter (melon, tangerine, peach flavors)
—Spring Seed Wine Co., Four O’Clock Chardonnay featuring organically grown grapes, McLaren Vale
—D’Arenberg, d’Arry’s Original Shiraz Grenache, McLaren Vale
—St. Hallett, Gamekeeper’s Shiraz, Barossa Valley
—Cooralook, Pinot Noir, Strathbogie Ranges and Mornington Peninsula
—Innocent Bystander, Pinot Gris, Yarra Valley

The grocer will also provide online resources at Wholefoodsmarket.com/wine, including pairing tips, a virtual tour of Australia’s diverse wine regions with an interactive map and video, and a do-it-yourself Aussie wine-tasting party with downloadable wine descriptions, cheese tray cards and recipes, among other features.

In addition, Whole Foods has teamed up with Tourism Australia (Australia.com/now) and Wine Australia (Wineaustralia.com) to offer shoppers a chance to win a trip “down under.”
