Weis Opens Another Superstore
Weis Markets opened its new 63,400-square-foot superstore on Sullivan Trail in Forks Township, Pa., last weekend with a ribbon-cutting at which the grocer presented $17,000 in local donations, including $15,000 to St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network for its Riverside Hospital in nearby Bethlehem.
As part of the grand opening, the store’s first 250 customers received a coupon for a free bag of groceries. The store is also making individual $1,000 donations to the Community Fire Company of Forks Township and the Forks Township Youth Sports Organization.
This is Weis Markets’ second store opening in three weeks, and later this summer will open a replacement store in Bellefonte, Pa. Earlier this month, it opened a 63,000-square-foot store in West Lawn, Pa., at which tore teams delivered 4,000 reusable bags containing free private brand products and coupons valued at $67, at a total value of nearly $220,000, to households in the neighborhoods near the store.
The Sullivan Trail store features Weis Markets’ newest store design with expansive perishable departments, a center store offering with increased variety, an in-store café selling beer, a full-service pharmacy and a gas station.
The new store also uses advanced refrigeration and climate-control technologies designed to reduce the store’s refrigerant charge by 50% compared to a conventional supermarket. It will also feature a number of energy reducing technologies, including solar/thermal rated windows and reflective roofs and skylights for natural lighting.
Founded in 1912, Weis Markets operates 162 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
