Weis Markets’ ‘Total Package’

In the second of this three-part exclusive video segment, Progressive Grocer's Editor-in-Chief Meg Major continues her conversation with Dave Hepfinger, president and CEO of Weis Markets, about the company’s ongoing efforts to expand the value proposition for its customers.

Through its strategic marketing efforts, aggressive store remodeling campaign and companywide shared vision, the Sunbury, Pa.-based regional retailer continues to play up the “total package” of its health and wellness platform, which Heffigner says should emphasize the shopping experience as a whole.

“How well you execute the perimeter, the meal, the freshness, and all those items that fall under the health and wellness category — today and moving forward — has the most potential,” underscores Hepfinger in the video interview.

PG’s Major also discuses with Hepfinger the company’s latest 90-day Price Freeze Program, which lowered the prices on 2,400 staple items and froze the prices of the products for 90 days.

Emphasizing that the price-freeze promotional program continues to be strongly received by Weis Markets’ customers in a slow growth economy, Hepfinger discusses how it is but one of many rewards programs the retailer has employed in recent years that have helped shoppers save millions of dollars.

Owing to the company’s team building and frontline staffing approach, Hepfinger says he continues to be impressed by associate response to Weis Markets’ overall strategic plan. “Sharing vision is profitable and works in our favor,” Hepfinger notes.

Stay tuned for part three of this exclusive interview when Hepfinger further discusses how the health and wellness movement is helping Weis Markets connect with consumers, and how strategic promotional efforts are helping the company expand its market share.
