Weis Markets Posts Second-Quarter Sales Increase; Same-Store Sales Up 4.1 Percent
SUNBURY, Pa. -- Weis Markets, Inc. on Wednesday said second-quarter earnings rose 1.7 percent, while sales increased 3.3 percent.
In a press release, the company said earnings increased to $13.8 million, or 51 cents a share, from $13.6 million, or 50 cents a share, a year earlier.
Second-quarter sales grew to $508 million from $491.9 million last year.
Same-store sales for the quarter grew 4.1 percent, helped by the shift of Easter into April this year.
Weis Markets operates 159 grocery stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and West Virginia. It also owns SuperPetz, a pet supply superstore chain with 33 locations in eleven states.
