Weis Markets Names Jonathan Weis Pres./CEO

A generational shift in continuing family leadership at Weis Markets has commenced with the appointment of Jonathan Weis as president and CEO. Having served as the regional retailer’s interim CEO since the departure of former chief executive, David J. Hepfinger, Weis will retain his role as vice chairman, alongside his father, Robert F. Weis, who remains chairman of the Sunbury, Pa.-based grocery chain.

Weis, who joined the company in 1989, will oversee all aspects of retail, supply chain, merchandising, human resources, information technology, finance, real estate and manufacturing operations. During his 25-year career, Weis worked in a variety of positions and departments throughout the company, including produce merchandising, grocery procurement and store operations. He later worked in the company’s real estate department, where he was VP of property management and development. In 2004, he was named vice chairman and corporate secretary.

Holding a B.A. from Yale University, Weis has served on various local and regional boards. He is the grandson of company co-founder Harry Weis, who along with his brother, Sigmund, founded the publicly traded company in 1912, which today has grown to include 165 locations and more than 18,000 associates in its distribution center, corporate office, manufacturing facilities and store locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, New Jersey and West Virginia.
