Weis Markets’ Healthful Imperative

In the final installment of a three-part exclusive video segment, Progressive Grocer Editor-in-Chief Meg Major discusses with Dave Hepfinger, president and CEO of Weis Markets, how the growth of health and wellness is helping the company connect with consumers and advance its market share.

“Health and wellness has been a strategic imperative for us for a number of years, but is now really moving to the forefront,” Hepfinger notes during the video interview. “Anything we can do along the line of health and wellness certainly works in our favor — it’s not only good for the consumer, but good for our business as well.”

Focused marketing efforts are a key component of Weis Markets’ continuing emphasis on health and wellness as part of its overall strategic game plan, including the Sunbury, Pa.-based regional retailer’s "Healthy Bites" newsletter, which Hepfinger says further reinforces its customer outreach efforts by showcasing how to “make healthful eating simple and delicious for adults and kids alike.”

Hepfinger also discusses other health-and-wellness initiatives with PG’s Major, among them the commitment of the company’s on-staff nutritionists, healthful pilot programs, local events and fairs, the natural tie-in of Weis Markets’ pharmacists, and even a well-received exercise program at company headquarters.
