Weis Markets has enhanced its senior leadership team by naming four of its executives SVPs reporting directly to the grocery chain’s president and CEO David J. Hepfinger. The four are Rusty Graber, Jim Marcil, Jay Ropietksi and Kurt Schertle.

“Each of our senior vice presidents contributed to our company’s recent success, including our 11-store acquisition in the Binghamton, N.Y., area,” said Hepfinger. “As we continue to grow our company and develop our long-range growth strategy, our new senior leadership team will play a greater role in helping us develop and execute our initiatives and programs.”

In his new role of SVP/real estate and development, Graber oversees the company’s real estate, store design/construction and legal departments. Prior to his promotion, Graber was the company’s VP of real estate. A graduate of Penn State University, he joined the company in 1989 as director of real estate.

As SVP of human resources, Marcil oversees all aspects of the company’s personnel matters, including recruitment, compensation and benefits, talent management, training, and development. Before his promotion, Marcil was VP of human resources. He joined the Sunbury, Pa.-based regional grocer in 2002 from CVS, where he worked as director of human resources in its Mid-Atlantic region. Marcil is a graduate of Marietta College and holds a masters degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and SPHR certification.

Now Weis Markets’ new SVP of operations, Ropietski was promoted from his former VP/operations role. A 25-year industry veteran, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the company’s 164 stores, as well as its distribution center, operational administration group and quality control lab. Having joined the company in 2008, Ropietski, a graduate of Empire State University, was formerly regional VP for Price Chopper.

In his new SVP role, Schertle oversees all aspects of the company’s marketing, merchandising, procurement and advertising for its center store, perishable and pharmacy departments. Joining Weis in 2009 as VP/sales and merchandising, Schertle, a graduate of Towson University, has more than 20 years of food-retailing experience, mostly with Supervalu, where he was SVP of marketing and merchandising.
