Wegmans Teams With Global Aquaculture Alliance

Wegmans Food Markets Inc. is working with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) to help the grocer enhance its aquaculture sustainability program.

Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans, which operates 77 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland, and the GAA will develop program guidelines requiring suppliers to provide product from environmentally responsible sources. The supply chain areas to be covered are Processing Facility, Farm, and Hatchery.

“At the GAA, our mission is simple: Feed the world through responsible aquaculture,” noted Peter Redmond, VP of global market development for the St. Louis-based organization. “It is through our partnerships with retailers and suppliers around the world that enable us to work towards this mission.”
