Wegmans Offering Upscale Holiday Gifts

Those in need of good gift ideas need look no further than their nearest Wegmans Food Market, or if they find themselves snowed in, they can check out the grocer's Celebrate catalog online.

Here's a sampling of some of the available items, as chosen by s.v.p. of consumer affairs Mary Ellen Burris in her weekly online column:

Found in the grocer's Nature's Marketplace department, MiYim Certified Organic Toys are made in China, but the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based company, Hosung creates and manufactures the products to rigid toxicity standards. The toys are machine washable in cold water and come in sustainable packaging. Prices range from $9.99 for the rattle to $24.99 for the bear or puppy.

World of Good and Wegmans worked together on two $19.99 Fair Trade Tea gift sets: ceramic tea mugs with Wegmans Organic Sachet teas or chai. The two mugs, which can also be found in Nature's Marketplace, are made by an Indonesian small-craft producer, and imported by a not-for-profit company helping such producers with their marketing.

Additionally in Nature's Marketplace are Pacifica Candles' hand-poured soy wax or food grade paraffin candles, with lead-free wicks, which range from $9.99 for a 5.5-ounce candle to $12.99 for sets featuring body butter and solid perfume, and pajamas and kimono robes from the Under the Canopy line of organic cotton apparel.

Meanwhile seasonal general merchandise offers the adjustable-grind Wegmans Salt and Pepper Mill Set in a smaller size (only four-and-a-half inches high) than last year's larger ones, but still with sea salt and Telicherry peppercorns, for $19.99; two roasting pans, also for $19.99; and three-piece cookie sheets from Wilton for $8.99.
