Wegmans Named Food Network's 'SUPER Market'

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets received this week the 2007 Food Network Award in the category "SUPER Market -- presented to the grocery chain that has changed the way we shop."

The televised Academy Awards-style Food Network Award show, hosted by Emeril Lagasse and presented by such culinary celebrities as Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentiis, Bobby Flay, and Paula Deen, honored people, products, and organizations in the field of food innovation.

Wegmans was one of three nominees for the "SUPER Market" award, along with Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. TV chefs Sandra Lee and Bobby Deen presented Wegmans with the award.

"This award belongs to our people," said Wegmans president Colleen Wegman in a statement. "By sharing their knowledge and providing incredible service, they have truly changed the way people shop."

An internal panel led by Food Network Kitchens chose the nominees for the awards. The same panel, which represents all departments at the network, selected the winners. There were also five viewer's choice categories determined by votes on www.foodnetwork.com

Family-run Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. operates 71 stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland.
