Wegmans Makes Meat Vacuum Pack More User Friendly
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Wegmans Food Markets here ' Keeps Fresh has rolled out further innovations to the vacuum packaging for fresh meat that it introduced four years ago, including a larger tab on one side of the package that allows the consumer to slowly peel back the airtight seal.
The updated packaging will be featured on "strip steaks only for now; other beef items will be added through the summer," said s.v.p. of consumer affairs Mary Ellen Burris in her online column on Wegmans' Web site.
Burris further noted, "The package label has been modified so that the 'use or freeze by' date is easier to read."
As for improved meat offerings, "Club Pack strip steaks will now be in Keeps Fresh packaging," according to Burris, who added: "Even better, each of the four strip steaks is individually sealed, yet connected in one strip....What's great about this is that you can cut the steaks apart as you need them. This is especially important to single folks, who tell us they can't take advantage of the Club Pack price (less per pound) because they can't use the fresh meat quickly enough."
