Walmart.com President to Step Down
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced Tuesday that Jeanne Jackson, president and chief executive of Walmart.com, will be stepping down after the holiday 2001 season, The Associated Press reported. Jackson spearheaded Wal-Mart's re-engineering of its e-commerce site.
Jackson will be succeeded by John Fleming, who will become chief operating officer. He had been senior vice president of merchandising for Walmart.com
Jackson came to Walmart.com in April 2000 from Banana Republic, where she was CEO and president. At the time, Walmart.com was an independent company operating jointly with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Accel Partners, a California venture capital firm. Earlier this year, the companies announced that Wal-Mart would acquire all minority interest in Walmart.com.
"In light of the buyout, it has become clearer and clearer to me that something with broader scope is more appropriate for me at this stage in my career," Jackson said.
Wal-Mart spokeswoman Cynthia Lin said Tuesday that Jackson was leaving to pursue more challenging opportunities.
She said, in the meantime, Jackson serves on four boards: McDonald's Corp., Nike Inc., the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation board of trustees and the Harvard Business School Board of Directors of the Associates.
