Walgreen Co. Promotes Execs

DEERFIELD, Ill. -- Walgreen Co. said yesterday that it has made the following promotions: Trent E. Taylor has to e.v.p. and c.i.o., from s.v.p. and c.i.o.; Gregory D. Wasson to Walgreen Co. e.v.p. and president of Walgreens Health Services (WHS), the company's managed care division, from a corporate s.v.p. and president of WHS; and Kermit R. Crawford to Walgreen Co. v.p. and e.v.p. of pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) services for WHS from v.p. of PBM services.

Taylor came to Walgreens in 1992 as manager of information systems after serving as a consultant with Ernst & Young in Chicago. He was became director of infrastructure and architecture in 1995 and then divisional v.p. and c.i.o. in 1999. He was appointed corporate v.p. and c.i.o. in 2000 and rose to s.v.p. and c.i.o. in 2002.

Wasson joined Walgreens in 1980 as a pharmacy technician while studying at Purdue University's school of pharmacy, from which he graduated the following year. He managed several Houston drug stores before becoming district manager in 1986. Wasson then served as regional v.p. of Walgreens store operations in 1999 and Walgreen Co. v.p. and e.v.p. of Walgreens Health Initiatives, the company's PBM, in 2001. Wasson rose to president of Walgreens Health Initiatives in 2002 and was appointed a Walgreen Co. s.v.p. last year.

Crawford came to Walgreens as a pharmacy intern in 1983, graduating later that year from pharmacy school at Texas Southern University in Houston. He served as a store manager and district manager for the company before becoming v.p. of store operations in 2000. He rose to v.p. of PBM services in 2004.

Walgreen Co. operates 4,962 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico. The company also provides additional services to pharmacy patients and prescription drug and medical plans through Walgreens Health Services, which includes Walgreens Health Initiatives, Walgreens Mail Service, Walgreens Specialty Pharmacy and Walgreens Home Care.
