Wal-Mart Taps UK Exec as Grocery EVP

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. said on Friday it has tapped Jack Sinclair, a UK grocery executive with experience at Safeway Plc and Tesco, to serve as e.v.p. of grocery merchandise for Wal-Mart in the U.S.

Effective today, Sinclair, 47, will oversee the grocery business for the U.S. division and will integrate planning, category management and store experience into the overall grocery business unit, Wal-Mart said in a statement.

Sinclair will report to John Fleming, e.v.p. and chief merchandising officer for Wal-Mart Stores U.S. Wal-Mart said Sinclair brings with him broad experience in grocery retailing in the United Kingdom. He spent 14 years at Safeway plc serving as group marketing and trading director, and prior to that he worked at Tesco Stores Ltd.
