Wal-Mart Taps Designer for Holiday Housewares

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -- Wal-Mart's bid to upscale itself continues apace. The company said yesterday it has engaged celebrity lifestyle and design expert Colin Cowie for its first celebrity home line, the Csquared by Colin Cowie holiday home collection, set to launch exclusively at Wal-Mart in October.

The debut collection is meant to provide stylish, affordable solutions for holiday decorating and entertaining, said the chain.

The collection features barware accessories, photo frames, floral decor, compilation music CDs, and other items, with prices ranging from $2.94 for a champagne flute to $39.97 for a floral topiary.

"Colin Cowie shares our goal to help everyone live the best possible life," said Paul Beahm, s.v.p.-merchandising, Wal-Mart. "Our Csquared by Colin Cowie holiday collection is the newest development in our evolving approach to give Wal-Mart customers the solutions they need with the style they want."

Starting in October 2006, the complete Csquared holiday collection will be available in 1,100 Wal-Mart stores, and a partial collection will be available at an additional 2,200 stores and the chain’s Web site. The holiday collection will be available for a limited time only, through the end of December.
